Title of Show

Last night Jeff (his post) and I went to the first preview of Title of Show (Orchestra, row J, mutha-fucka!). We’ve been to first previews before and we’ve applauded along with enthusiastic audiences before, but this crowd was bat-shit insane. I’m talking twice the applause that Patti Lupone gets in Gypsy.

We went around to the stage door and waited for a while, but it was way too crowded (visit the Title of Show blog to see the photos & video). After talking to two obsessed teenage fans who were seeing the show for the first time, we felt way old.

I’m not sure I liked all the changes they made from the original Off-Broadway version (probably because I’m so used to what’s on the cast recording) and the second half could stand some tightening up, but the show is in fine shape for Broadway. I just wonder what a typical Broadway audience of tourists will think of this show (the two senior citizens next to us were mystified by the applause and left halfway through).

And Jeff just had an interesting thought: we assume that Heidi (having been in the most Broadway shows) will get the Gypsy robe. Will she have room to circle the stage 3 times contained within a ring made up by her 4 fellow cast members? Will they cover a panel with duct tape before passing it on to the next show?

The new apartment

We still need to get a stand for the new TV (so we can sell Jeff’s old TV with its matching stand), but the apartment is coming together.  I filmed the following video clip for my mom.

3G iPhone

I decided a couple of months ago that I wanted to get the iPhone, but my friend Steve convinced me to wait for the new 3G model (and I couldn’t convince Jeff to take over the fantastic Sprint plan I bullied my way into). Still, I’m loathe to give up my familiar Palm applications and I’m around WiFi nodes all day long so I don’t really care that much about the speed bump promised in the new model.

So the new 3G iPhone is finally here (but not available until July 11). Will I switch? The continued lack of a user swappable battery is worrisome (though I’ve never had to replace the battery on any phone I’ve owned), but most of the other concerns about the first iPhone seem to have been cleared up (I wasn’t holding my breathe for the rumored front facing camera for video conferencing that didn’t appear). And could it be that a Palm emulator might be on its way?

NYC MetroCard Bonus Calculator

NYC MetroCard Bonus Calculator: I’ve had an extra 15 cents on my Metrocard since the fare changes and I’ve finally figured out how to bring it up to a $2 amount.

Apartment Hunting

Jeff & I have been hunting for apartments the past several weekends — I’ve lost count of how many we’ve seen.

They’ve mostly been no-fee apartments so far. They tend to fit into 2 categories: a) way overpriced, tiny, with unnecessary stainless steel appliances (seriously, $2500 a month for a 1-bedroom that can barely fit a full size mattress and a 10×10 combined kitchen/living room?), or b) slightly more affordable, slightly larger rundown walk ups in sketchy areas.

We’ve started checking out broker’s fee apartments and they’re not much better. The problem is that we’re only looking on the west side to accommodate both our commutes and that’s an expensive area.

This whole process is very stressful and Jeff & I have been handling that stress in very different ways. Jeff vibrates with so much nervous energy I think he’s going to break free of earth’s gravity and I pretend I’m not worried and then can’t get a single night’s sleep.

We have until the middle of May to find a place, so I think we still have enough time to reconcile to the fact that whatever we pick is going to have serious drawbacks that we’ll just have to live with.

Mobile IMDB: The other mobile version I had bookmarked doesn’t seem to work anymore.
