Houston, we have a problem…

I went and picked up a parallel port Zip Drive today to use as a backup drive for my server. But I can’t figure out how to get it to work. Has anyone out there set one up with Red Hat and can give me some pointers? (I don’t know how to recompile the kernel or anything like that).

This might be helpful. Particularly this part which directs you to this driver. The driver is included in 2.x.x kernels, that page goes into specific details.

Why yes, I was bored! How’d you know?

Hey!

Just a quick note: once you’ve successfully installed everything for your parellel port zip, be aware that it’s probably not your imagination: p-port zips are markedly slower than their SCSI cousins who are then, in turn, slower than the USB versions you’ve probably been using.

At any rate, just didn’t want you thinking that you’d mis-configured something.
