one fish, two fish, red fish, shark!

one fish, two fish, red fish, shark!. Those married types, Scott and Jen now have a joint blog.

(BTW, continued props to Scott for keeping me up to date with Buffy now that I live somewhere without a WB channel).

ZDTV.

On my new cable system, I get the ZDTV network, which covers computer technology and the Internet. There are shows covering new products, and computer games, and support questions. Watching it is really pretty insulting to my intelligence (today’s contest question was “What is DOS?”), but still I find it strangely compelling. I think it must be the various on-air personalities.

Yeah – I’m totally hot for the Surf Guru.

Updates.

I’ve got a new static IP number outside the university firewall now. I had a stern talking to from one of the network administrators, so I have to watch what I do carefully. No porn or illegal sound files!

Web Queeries is now working again! Yeah! Everyone who’s written me and wanted to join it and the GLBT Weblog Portal will be added soon.

I’m looking for a good free image server service to serve my webcam image (I’m getting SO MUCH traffic from David’s MetaCamPage!). Any suggestions?

I thought I’d better explain the new photos of me at the top of the page — I’m supposed to be acting out the concepts of “hit”, “or”, and “miss.” Kind of like Emotion Eric‘s site (this explanation is really just an excuse to mention Eric’s site again).

Max noticed my facial hair. Yes, I’m trying to grow a goatee again. This time I’m determined to let it grow for several weeks until I ultimately give up and shave it off again. Really I just want to be as sexy as Jay.

Drew Powell.

Here’s another link I’ve been saving for a rainy day (or rather, a drought)… back in undergrad I directed a production of Cotton Patch Gospel starring Drew Powell, who now appears as one of the military school students on FOX’s Macolm in the Middle, as Jesus.

MrWakeUp.com

MrWakeUp.com. I’ve been sitting on this link for a while.

All last year, Bertie and Shannon gave each other wakeup calls (after forgetting to wake up Bertie once for a class, I was never asked to do so again).

Now, Bertie is all by herself in Atlanta, with no one to wake her up. So I suggested she sign up for MrWakeUp, part of the iPing network, which will give her automatic free wakeup calls.

Speaking of telephones, I’d appreciate voice mail via my toll-free voice mail box at 1-877-288-0950 ext 233. Thanks.

I work in Mac IE now.

Thanks to Jason, a silly html bug for Mac IE is now fixed.

In which Matt finds himself in a happy place. Well, having my boss call the computer people and ask them why my accounts hadn’t been created after 2 and 1/2 weeks seems to have done the trick. I now have my Truman State email address: kingston@truman.edu. They are also evaluating and working on my request for a non-firewalled static IP number, so hit-or-miss.org and Web Queeries should soon be back up and running correctly.

I went for coffee today with 2 students and a faculty member from PRISM, the Truman State GLBT club. We ended up talking for 4 hours. I’m going to a meeting tomorrow at the library to help with a GLBT collection development project (since they have few GLBT resources). There are going to be a few other students around this summer and I’m going to be meeting with another faculty member soon. So, I’m actually going to have GLBT friends here! But I’m pretty much resigning myself to the fact that it’s doubtful I’ll find someone to date (since I can’t date students), but stranger things have happened…

Harry Potter Book 4 update.

From Max come this NYTimes article (free NYTimes registration required) about the secrecy surrounding the fourth Harry Potter book. I’ve preordered my copy from Amazon.com, but I doubt it will arrive on (or even soon after) the July 8th release date since they’ve been so inudated with advance orders. I’m hoping that the public library here will work the book into their summer reading program.

BTW, Max just got a Palm IIIxe! Now we can trade Palm tips and he can read my site using Avantgo.

I’m back

Over the weekend, I discovered that a) there was no way for me to have internet access until Monday, and that b) my old server at IU went kablooey on the new administrator. So, I had to just sit by helplessly while no one was able to access my site and I couldn’t put up anything to say what had happened.

But now I’m back. I a) finally have dial-up access from my temporary apartment (slow is better than none), and b) have finally gotten to connect my new server to the campus network. I’m still tweaking stuff here and there, so there may be a few outages.

A big thanks to all the folks who sent me mail asking what had happened to my site — it’s nice to know I was missed!

While I was copying files over, I went ahead and put up this new design I played around with while I was offline all weekend.

Cousin Oliver.

I’ve gotten the chance to hang out with many of my co-workers over the past 3 days. They’re a fun bunch, but many of them are leaving over the next month and a half (only 2 of them are staying next year). So, their activities and parties now are centered around goodbyes to each other.

They’re all being friendly and trying to include me in their fun, but I can’t help but feel like an outsider and a hanger-on.

I feel like Cousin Oliver from the Brady Bunch.
