Hit or Miss

In which Matt gets kicked to the curb. Today I was officially informed by my supervisor that I can’t be the university advisor for the local chapter of Lambda Chi.

To make a long story short, it’s an issue of liability because I’m also a residence hall director here. I understand the concerns and I will abide by them, but I can’t help but feel disappointed.

Like I’ve written before, the presence of Lambda Chi chapters was a factor when I was doing my job search. I’m sad that I won’t be able to officially participate and help guide the chapter.

But more importantly, I’m upset from a student development position. For too long in this country, greek houses have existed without strong student development influences. We have hall directors in the residence halls for a purpose (programming, counseling, judicial concerns, etc) – otherwise we could go back to calling them dormitories and just have a “building manager” that looked out for leaks and broken locks. The greek houses (especially) need this type of influence and support as well, and it saddens me that I won’t be allowed to provide that.
