Mac Mini

Hit or Miss

Mac Mini

Apple did indeed launch a headless Mac (no integrated display) today. And as promised, I went ahead and ordered one. Thanks to my educational discount, I got a little price break and ordered extra RAM, a SuperDrive (to burn DVDs), and integrated bluetooth. Should arrive in about 2 weeks. Mike promised he’ll hold my hand as I explore the big scary world of Macs.

Yes, the discount on the Mac Mini itself is $20, but you also get discounts on each upgrade option with the educator discount (or at least I did when I configured my box). I’ll also be able to get iWork for $49 if I choose instead of $79. Really the whole enterprise isn’t as cheap as it seems, but I’ve been wanting to dip my toe in the Mac ocean for a while and this is the easy way for me to do it.

As a federal employee, I get roughly the same discount, so I’m thinking of buying one too (as are several of my co-workers). Though, once I add in the extra RAM, wireless connectivity, etc., the price ends up almost double. Even so, it’s a relatively cheap and easy way to get back into the Cult of Mac (I used Macs exclusively until about six years ago).

Fun site, sir! I love my Mac! (iBook) I have a PC at home and get very annoyed with the constant hassle of de-bugging, de-fragging and de-pop-upping.
I love its stability, yes, and the sheer gorgeousness of it both in aesthetic and – surprise – utility!
Ignoramus that i am, I nonetheless with my Mac made a nifty little movie: here’s a link (G rated – ha!!) http://homepage.mac.com/michaelstealy/YaYa.mov may it inspire you!
