Crab Rangoon spotting

Crab Rangoon spotting

After previously writing about the lack of Crab Rangoon in NY, Jeff and I stumbled across a little Chinese dive around the corner while looking for a restaurant open past 9pm on Sunday. And lo and behold — they serve Crab Rangoon. But it’s the real kind actually with crab, rather than the gooey cream cheese variety I grew to love in the Midwest.

So is that disappointment I sense?

there is a place in Park Slope that makes them exactly in the midwest fashion. cream cheese and fake crab. de-lish! they just call them creamcheese crab meat wontons. it’s on prospect park west between 16th and 17th street, f train to Prospect Park 15th stop. i’ve talked to them and they started carrying them cause new hipsters in the neighborhood had been requesting them, and one person even brought some back after a trip to denver , to show to them. best of all, you get 6 for 2 bucks!

Mm… the fakes sound good.

So. Were the originals tasty too?

It’s kinda like wanting a Taco Bell chimichanga at an authentic Mexican eatery.

I didn’t even know that there was a real kind besides the Midwest kind. Even in Boston, that’s the only kind I’ve ever had.
