Sometime while I wasn’t paying attention, the number of comments in my weblog (currently 1565) surpassed the number of my own posts (now 1462).

That’s true. But I didn’t build commenting into my CMS until I had been running my weblog for a while. And, the vast majority of my posts don’t generate any comments. But then, some posts do generate an inordinate number of comments. So, it was bound to happen — but I just noticed it.
Matt | 28 Oct 2002I just love how some people can’t even figure out that this is someone’s personal site, and not a forum run by faceless admins. It’s like they don’t even bother looking around when they post. So funny.
Jason | 30 Oct 2002I’m surprised that you don’t close/archive threads after a period of time… three months for a thread should be sufficient, and it would keep the noise down a bit. I mean, if people really had a comment on some bone-dry thread, they could always e-mail you.
vis10n | 30 Oct 2002That’s a really good idea. I’m already tweaking my code to split up quick links from journally-type entries, so maybe I can implement that as well. Thanks!
Matt | 30 Oct 2002Considering how much dross I post, it’s nice to see that I’m occasionally helpful 🙂
vis10n | 30 Oct 2002NO! NO! NO! Jay… no more! Matt? Can we just filter out all reference to **** ******?

I guess that makes sense — one post from you could draw many comments, even if some or most posts get none.
