Last night I went and saw American Beauty. I don’t know what I can say that all the reviews haven’t – it’s a great flick and one I wholeheartedly recommend. Director Sam Mendes has made an impressive screen debut. All I know is that he better not let all this fame go to his head and make him withdraw from directing the next Sondheim musical, Wise Guys, as has been rumored. I’ve already been waiting SIX years for a new Sondheim show!
