Columbia shuttle breaks up over Texas. Truly a tragedy, reminding me of when the Challenger blew up when I was in 5th grade.

But I’m also sad that this will spawn a generation of conspiracy theorists who believe it was a terrorist act.

While I’m a big fan of CBS news, they were the only network, or at least Dan Rather was the only network broadcaster, to repeatedly bring up the possiblity of terrorism by insisting on denying it, over and over. “We repeat, there is no indication this was a terrorist act, that any ground to air missile was fired at the shuttle or, that any bomb was smuggled into it.” It was unbeleivable. That man should retire. He sounded like an idiot today.

We in Sydney are coming to grips with a terrible weekend. There was a bad traincrash, south of Sydney on Friday, 9 people killed, scores injured, then we wake up today (Sunday) to this tragic news. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of all the victims, and indeed with the people of the US, Israel and India who are grieving the loss of their loved ones .

Following up on my last comment, The nytimes had an article today about tv coverage, and also what they call Ratherisms.
