Sorority member quietly broke racial barrier. The University of Alabama’s previously all-white greek system got a lot of flack last year when a black women claimed she had been cut from all the sororities during Rush simply because of her race. Turns out that another women of mixed heritage did actually pledge last year. But what the Salon article leaves out is that the woman ended up leaving the university after the first semester. With the amount of greek alumni investestment in the university, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of feedback, letters to the editor, etc. this will raise.
