Hit or Miss

watchdog.mycomputer.com

watchdog.mycomputer.com. Checks your website every 15 minutes and sends a message to your pager if it goes down. Useful. But not worth $30 a month.

I’d rig something up myself to do that, but… if my server went down, then it wouldn’t be able to run the script to send me a page.

Considering how much an SNMP package would cost, $30/mo is a bargain. And yes, you could get a free *NIX package to do this, but if you didn’t know how to administer a *NIX box (read: Most .com industry wannabes) to keep it going, then you have to pay an administrator to keep things running smoothly. Again, $30/mo is a bargain. 😛
