Troy Stende, protege of Patrick Combs (author of Major in Success), gave a wonderful presentation in Collins last night – teaching us how to “Make College Easier, Beat The System & Get A Very Cool Job” (the subtitle of the book). All in all, the advice is similar to what you’d get from other career development books, but his enthusiasm and positivity were very inspiring.

What did I learn (me, the jaded older grad student amongst all these fresh-faced undergraduates)? In addition to making a resume, try making a brochure about yourself. I’ve seen it done before – James Marino, an actor whose theatre weblog I follow, has a downloadable headshot/comp-card (.pdf) on his website. I’d never really thought about doing it outside the theatre world though. Look for my very own brochure soon in my resume section.
