I’ve recently started regularely attending Catholic mass again – I stopped going after I came out a few years ago.  I’ve really enjoyed going to church again so far, because St. Paul’s is pretty liberal.  But this morning, during the weekly intentions, the congregation was asked to pray for “gays and divorced people,” so that they wouldn’t feel like “second class citizens” of the church.  All the feelings that led to my leaving the church before came flooding back to me.  I am still a “second class citizen” in the church’s eyes.  It’s been pretty hard coming to terms with my dual membership in the Catholic Church and the gay community.
